It’s been 5 years since the start of my self love journey, so I wrote a letter to my body.
Dear Body,
They told me to hide you. Subliminal messages told me to fix you. They told me to cover you up. Photoshop you. They told me to sit up straighter. Suck you in. Pay attention to where the camera is pointing so I can show off my “best” side. If chose to show you, they told me to be ashamed of you. It’s been exhausting. It’s been tiring. It’s been defeating, being in despise of parts that makes me… ME.
They didn’t say it outright, but they helped me learn to hate you.
It’s taken 5 years of deteremination. I knew I needed to feel differently about my body and I didn’t how I would get there. I didn’t know how to start. My body was something I resisted paying attention to. My body was something I never thought I could accept. But, now I do. I accept my body.
YOU are my body. Your softness. Your squishy-ness. I can’t say I’ll never want to change you again, but I promise to never go back to sending you disgusting thoughts or energy. You’re me. I’m you. I understand our connection to each other now. I want to continue on this journey together. And I feel calm in knowing that you probably won’t ever be considered “good” in society – but we don’t like society anyways, or the things it teaches us.
They taught me to hate you. But I choose to love you. I love you.
A tool that I have used to learn to love and accept my body has been self touch. It’s a way to get in touch with yourself at your own pace. Download our FREE Sensual Self Touch Guide, HERE.
