LOVING YOUR BODY IS NOT THE SAME AS LOVING THE WAY YOUR BODY LOOKS.
I know what you’re thinking. Um, okay, but what do you mean??
Love is not superficial.
It is not shallow.
Love is a DEEP feeling, the most powerful feeling.
You can love your body and not love the way it looks all the time. That’s valid. That’s okay.
Love goes deeper than the surface, and the way our body LOOKS is just the surface. What can your body do that is incredible? What has your body helped you accomplish? In what ways does your body help you to feel joy and experience life? These are all deep and meaningful aspects of your body and what it is worth. They are so much more important and significant than what your body looks like.
Think about the love you have for your family, friends, or pets. If something were to change on the outside that affects their appearance, would you have any less love for them? I don’t think so. This is the same when it comes to ourselves. We are going to change. We are going to grow and evolve in so many ways. Our bodies will do different things.
Remember that love cuts through the surface – always.
You can hold both – love for your body AND not loving how you look. Our bodies change through our lifetime. Our bodies tell our stories and about the things we have been through. It’s okay to have a hard time adjusting to those changes. It doesn’t mean you don’t love your body to struggle with the way it looks. Hold space for your process and honor the journey.
