This blog post includes our most frequently asked questions (and the answers!) about nature sessions. They are my favorite types of sessions because of how connected you feel to the Earth while being barefoot, and! I hope these answers help guide you through what a nature session usually looks like.

If you’re interested in doing a nature session of your own or have further questions, inquire here!

Where do nature sessions take place?

It depends on what kind of natural environment you’re looking for, but the options are limitless. I have access to a private field, a few secluded spots close to Richmond on the James River, and utilize the White Oak Canyon Trail for waterfall sessions. We can stay local to Richmond, or travel anywhere. (An additional fee may be applied!)

Are these areas secluded/safe to be naked in?

While, yes, there are risks, your safety and comfortability comes first, always! Whenever you are changing, we hold sheets or towels up for you. Some areas for sessions I know are mostly secluded and it’s safe to be naked/change without being seen. But if we go in a more public area (ex: White Oak Canyon Trail) there is a possibility of being seen by others. I try to find spots that are off the trail so that there is as much privacy as possible, and always keep a robe close by me that I can hand to you if needed. Bottom line, there is always a risk, but we’ve never had issues.

If you’re looking for a *completely private* property, we do have land 45 minutes west of Richmond. It is all woods!

How does my Hair & Makeup hold up?

We work with the best of the best hair and makeup artists for nature sessions. I let them know ahead of time so they can make sure to utilize products that hold and last longer! They will even send you off with extra setting powder, spray, and lipstick! And we can always pause for touchups.

How is a nature session different than a studio session?

A nature session is different for a few reasons! The poses are different, because we are utilizing Mother Nature instead of the bed, chairs, etc. It gives you the opportunity to move your body, which can reduce nerves and help keep you out of your head. It allows you to break through the conditioning we all have that tells us we’re only allowed to show our bodies in the bedroom. You’re able to use more of your senses when you are in an outdoor environment. The Earth’s energy is healing, and this allows you to be vulnerable while being connection to yourself!

Should I do an in-studio session before a nature session?

You totally can, and a lot of my clients do! It depends on your comfort level. If you are very nervous about a session with me in general, and you feel like being outside will make you even more concerned, let’s stick to being in the studio. Likewise, if you feel like being outside in nature will HELP you be more grounded, let’s do it. You know yourself best. Schedule a connection call with me HERE and we can discuss which session might work best for you!

Can I do a session half in the studio and half in nature?

YES! If you are seeking both, we can definitely make that happen.
